Minister of Information Praises Cambodian Football Program’s Growth

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Information, Khieu Kanharith, recalled Cambodia’s first SEA Games football match in which the Philippines beat Cambodia 10-0; this week’s performance shows that the Cambodian football program has made great progress.

Khieu Kanharith’s remarks were in reference to the men's football match between Cambodia and the Philippines which resulted in a 1-1 draw on May 2. He said, "Remember Cambodia, we went to the first SEA Games football match after the 1993 elections and played against the Philippines. They beat us 10-0. Looking back now, we see how far our football team has come."

Upon finishing their second match, the Cambodian U22 football team holds first place in Group A with four points. The next Group A match will take place on May 4, with Indonesia taking on Myanmar at 4pm and the Philippines taking on Timor-Leste at 7pm while the Cambodian team takes a break.
